When to use 999, and when to use Nirapod
999 is for emergencies happening now. Nirapod is not an emergency service: it is a community map that warns people about incidents nearby and builds a record of where crime happens. If you are in danger, call 999 first. Once you are safe, report the incident on Nirapod so others nearby are warned.
Reporting to the police
For a lost or stolen item or a threat, you can file a General Diary (GD) at your thana or online. For a crime such as snatching, robbery or assault you can file a case. Read how GDs and cases work in Bangladesh.
